are aware of risk factors like obesity, poor diet, and an unhealthy lifestyle, the link between low-grade chronic inflammation and high blood pressure is less well known. <\/p><p>Key players in this process include certain inflammatory molecules like methylglyoxal (MGO) and BAFF (B-cell Activating Factor), which help maintain an inflammatory environment that worsens arterial href=\"https:\/\/www.geklab.com\/en\/methylglyoxal-a-new-marker-of-glycemic-variability\/\">Methylglyoxal<\/a> (MGO) is a molecule produced during sugar metabolism, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geklab.com\/en\/inflammation-from-sugars-and-glycation\/\">particularly during glycation<\/a>, when sugar residues bind to proteins. This process is accelerated by excess refined sugars and high glycemic index carbohydrates. <strong>MGO is a potent promoter of oxidative stress<\/strong>, capable of damaging endothelial cells that line blood vessels. When the endothelium is damaged, arteries become stiffer, promoting an increase in blood pressure. Additionally, MGO promotes inflammation by inducing the activation of other pro-inflammatory cytokines. In this way, methylglyoxal plays a central role in the mechanisms underlying high blood pressure, linking excessive sugar intake not only to diabetes, as commonly thought, but also to hypertension.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>BAFF (B-cell Activating Factor)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geklab.com\/en\/baff-a-multitasking-molecule-why-measure-it-and-how-to-deal-with-it\/\">BAFF<\/a> is a cytokine primarily known for its role in regulating the immune system. However, BAFF also has functions beyond immunity. It is secreted by adipose tissue, acting as an adipokine, and is involved in the regulation of metabolism and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geklab.com\/en\/insulin-resistance-sugar-induced-inflammation-and-weight-loss\/\">insulin sensitivity<\/a>. Excessive production of BAFF in adipose tissue can contribute to chronic inflammation associated with obesity, which in turn is a risk factor for hypertension. Moreover, <strong>BAFF stimulates a systemic inflammatory response that can worsen endothelial damage<\/strong>, leading to arterial stiffness and increased resistance to blood flow. The result is a vicious cycle of inflammation and high blood pressure, further exacerbated by metabolic dysfunction.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-9379c18\" id=\"high-blood-pressure\" data-block-id=\"9379c18\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\"><strong>High blood pressure and inflammation: what can we do?<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n<p>In addition to conventional treatments, such as antihypertensive medications, scientific research is increasingly focusing on strategies aimed at <strong>reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines<\/strong> through healthier diet and lifestyle choices.<\/p>\n\n<p>However, to effectively treat and prevent hypertension, it is not enough to adopt a generic diet. Low-grade chronic inflammation can have highly individualized causes, often linked to excessive sugar consumption or specific food groups that maintain elevated inflammatory states. In other words, for an anti-inflammatory diet to be truly effective, it must be personalized.<\/p>\n\n<p>A key step in <strong>establishing a personalized anti-inflammatory diet<\/strong> is performing specific products, such as the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geklab.com\/en\/perme-test\/\"><\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geklab.com\/en\/product\/perme-recaller-program\/\">PerM\u00e8 Recaller Program<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>, which measures the presence of BAFF  and Methylglyoxal (MGO), factors often overlooked in conventional clinical exams.
